About This Quote
The story of human civilization, including the wars, violence, and death that have characterized it throughout its history, is often portrayed as a horror story. People are afraid of the past, of what has gone before us, fearing that the very same things that have happened before may happen again. As a result, they seek to encode their fears in the history books so that future generations won’t repeat them. But history is not a horror story.
It describes what happened through the eyes of the people who lived through it. It is not perfect, but it is true.
